We have our 2025 Stomp Out Cancer with Dan winners. Jim Gegg from Kansas City with 1760 total points won the pair of Air Jordan 4 Retro Black/Metallic Shoes. Taylor Kelly of Westlake Texas was second with 1710 total points and won the size 12 pair of purple Adidas PW Tennis shoes. As we close out the 2025 Stomp Out Cancer Event, records were set both for participation and funds raised for rare cancer research. We had 533 participant brackets and raised over $300,000, bringing the 5-year total to over $1 million donated to MD Anderson for groundbreaking research work being done by Dr. Matt Campbell and his incredible team. Not bad for a contest where the prize is a pair of Dan’s size 12 sneakers! Thanks to all for your support and generosity and looking forward to Stomp Out Cancer in 2026!

Catherine Stallmer

Pick: University of Connecticut

Nike Jordan retro Deep Royal Blue

With the UConn win last night, we have now successfully closed the fourth Stomp Out Cancer with Dan. We are happy to announce the first place pair of shoes goes to Catherine Stallmer, 14 years old of McLean, Virginia. Great job Catherine! And second place goes to Rick Boland, a friend from Keller Texas who’s 14 at heart. Congratulations to both on great brackets. As mentioned previously, we had well over 500 brackets filled out and while the final donation count is not available yet as some funds are still coming in, we appear to be on track to exceed $250,000 raised for rare cancer research, bringing the four year total to $700,000. We’ll send a final report soon. Thanks to all who participated in any way.

2023 - 1st Place

Gary Garcia

Pick: University of Connecticut

Nike Lebron XVI

We’ve closed out the 2023 Stomp Out Cancer with Dan NCAA contest and fund raising. On the contest side, as previously reported, first place went to Gary Garcia and second to Kevin Batey. Both Gary and Kevin picked UConn as the winner. Here’s a picture of each being presented with their shoes from Dan’s vast collection. And no, Judy didn’t make me wear the shirt in the picture with Kevin! On the fund raising side, thanks to your help and support a donation of $194,000 was made to MD Anderson to fund rare cancer research. The total raised over the three years of the contest is $456,000. Judy and I recently made a trip to MDA to meet with Dr. Matt Campbell and his team and tour the labs where research is performed. On the trip, we met researchers and scientists from four different continents. We are even more encouraged that significant breakthroughs will be made in fighting this deadly disease. Thanks to all and looking forward to doing it again next year.

2022 - 1st Place

Bob Reeves

Pick: University of Kansas

Jordan 11 Retro Win Like '96

We have the winners in the 2022 Dan Hund Memorial to Stomp Out Cancer NCAA Tournament Challenge. Out of approximately 250 entries, taking first place and winning Dan’s pair of Air Jordan Retro Win Like ‘96 shoes is Bob Reeves, a Westlake friend of Dan and the Hund family. Bob is a Kansas native and a KU grad. He’s such a big Jayhawk fan I think he believes that goofy looking bird is real. Bob accumulated 1300 total points, a full 100 more than the next closest contestant. Winning second place and receiving Dan’s Air Safari Emerald Green shoes is 9-year-old Ben Tauzel, son and grandson of family friends. Ben lives in Dallas and attends Trinity Christian Academy. His bracket selection methodology was picking some favorite teams and sprinkling in excellent wisdom and judgment. His 1200 points edged out several other people with strong brackets. Congratulations to both Bob and Ben. On the fundraising side, we’ve raised over $150,000. When combined with last year’s tournament, over $250,000 has been raised in two years to fund rare cancer research led by Dr. Matt Campbell of M D Anderson. We cannot express enough our deepest appreciation to all of you for honoring Dan and supporting this cause.

2021 - 1st Place

Libby Grossman

Pick: Baylor University

Air Jordan 3 Retros

We’ve all been wondering who is Daisy2/ Libster the Winster. Well, now we know. She is Libby, the 11 year old granddaughter of Beth Rivers and Woody Grossman, long time family friends. CONGRATULATIONS LIBBY. She lives in Manhattan and Daisy is her Dog’s name. Beth and Woody used the Stomp out Cancer event to have a family contest, so obviously Libby won that too. I hope Grandma and Grandpa appropriately reward her. What I want to know is given the late start on the eastern time zone, was she allowed to stay up and watch the game? I can’t wait to see a picture of her wearing the size 12 Air Jordans! Also, a few donations are still trickling in but we have raised $50,000 which will be matched by our family. Having $100,000 go to fight rare tumor cancers touches our hearts in the deepest way. A sincere Thank You goes to all who participated. It means a lot to our Family that we do something to remember a wonderful son, brother, uncle and friend, especially as we approach the first anniversary of his passing. God Bless you all and we look forward to having you all participate next year and beyond. Remember, I’ve still got more than 50 pairs of sneakers left!
