In 2020, Dan Hund, an avid sneaker head, passed away from adrenal cancer. He was only 35 years old. In 2021, the Dan Hund Memorial to Stomp Out Cancer began. Dan always believed a cure would be found, if not in time for him, then for others. This year marks the 6th year of Stomp Out Cancer, an NCAA tournament challenge where the winner and runner up receive a pair of Dan’s shoe collection. Over the first five years, about 2500 brackets have been submitted and over $1 million raised and donated for research at MD Anderson. Please see Dr. Matt Campbell’s short video where he describes the promising new drug trial made possible by your generosity. Our goal this year is to increase both the number of participants and amount raised. The winner will get a pair of Dan’s Air Jordan size 12 pair of The Air Jordan 9 Retro Low Pantone, also known as the "Pantone". The Pantone was designed by Michael Jordan and is Carolina Blue with the classic number "23" is embossed on the back. As information, Pastor Joel Quilé wore the first place shoes last year on Easter Sunday, weaving The Resurrection, Dan and the shoes into his beautiful homily. Second placer will receive a pair of size 12 air of the Air Max 270 'Grey Volt Orange', a Cool Grey mesh upper and matching synthetic overlays. The Swooshes and dual-density midsole are dressed in Volt Green, while the outsole is color blocked. Completing the look is webbing at the toe and heel. Donations in the past have been wide ranging, from small dollars to thousands of dollars. While there is no standard minimum donation, the most common donations are $50-100 per bracket. But if your current situation doesn’t allow a donation, play anyway. Your participation is what Dan would have wanted. If you can dig a little deeper, that would be great too. All donations go 100% to MDA and all donations are 100% matched. The tournament selection will be announced on Sunday, March 15, 2026. Once the tournament field is available, the Dan Hund Memorial 2026 group will be available to join through the ESPN Tournament Challenge. New participants, visit the "Get Involved" page to join the group. Returning bracket participants from 2025 will need to dust off their ESPN username and password but will receive an automatic email from the ESPN Tournament Challenge site to join the Dan Hund Memorial 2026. Please email stompoutcancer4dan@gmail.com if you have any issues joining the group or questions. Click on GET INVOLVED below to access the ESPN site and the Donation site.

THE DAN HUND MEMORIAL
The Dan Hund Memorial to Stomp Out Cancer is an annual March Madness Pool for anyone who wishes to support cancer research, have fun, compete and honor a great man.
Among his many passions, Dan was a shoe guy. He bought and sold hundreds of pairs over the years and continually impressed the staff at MD Anderson with new and colorful footwear. When his family sold his home, they found dozens of pairs neatly arranged in his closet, many never worn and in the original boxes.
His friends and family decided to use these shoes in a way to both reflect Dan’s passion for life, sports and fun while supporting cancer research.
